How Long Does It Take to Buy a Home?

Some buyers act quickly while others take months. Short answer = it depends.

Here’s the usual timeline:

Make A "Must-Have" List

Timeline: 5 mins - a few days
Know what you NEED vs. what would simply be "nice-to-have".

Find A Great Agent

Timeline: A few days - weeks
A great agent makes all the difference. Don't rush this step. Take time to find one you're comfortable with and that understands your needs.

Get Pre-Approved

Timeline: 1 - 2 days
A pre-approval letter shows sellers you're serious. Get it done early.

Tour Homes

Timeline: 1 week – 4+ months
Some find "the one" quickly. Others need more time.

Make An Offer & Negotiate

Timeline: 1 – 3 days
Once you find the right home, expect some back-and-forth before sealing the deal.

Conditions: Financing & Inspections

Timeline:  7 – 10 days
This is your due diligence period. Your lender will finalize the details while inspectors check the home.

Closing

Timeline: 1 week - 3 months
After all conditions are met, you’re just days away from getting the keys. Time to celebrate!

Need to move ASAP? 3 weeks is possible, but most buyers take a few months. Move at the speed that best aligns with your goals.
